2003 Iron Horse Vineyards Brut Rosé - USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley (8/21/2009)
Surprisingly deep red in the glass with a medium mousse. Nose and palate all red fruit, mostly strawberry jam with a bitter finish that initially seems like minerality but which is, in the end, just bitterness. Awkward and simple, ludicrously overpriced.

Went there 2 years ago…wandered off wondering what their winemaker was thinking? Or…maybe he was spot-on in terms of their CEO/leaderships’s requirements…risk-reward and all that.
Where is Barrister Holdredge when you need him opining on stuff from his area… ![berserker [berserker.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/8/8600bbd4810d342b8fbd4ffb62b4f0026275fd37.gif)
I was unfamiliar with this producer, but received this and a bottle of their 2006 Estate Pinot (which I haven’t yet tried) as a gift at work. Unfortunately, it appears that this is one of those labels that capitalize more on a glossy corporate image rather than anything inside the bottle.
Iron Horse did a great job with their sparkling releases through the early 90’s vintages and then things slipped slightly into the mid 90s vintages before falling off the cliff for everything since the late 90s IMO. I know longer purchase their wines for enjoyment or consumption though I have fond memories of numerous great wines of the past.
