TN: 2003 Huët Vouvray Moelleux Clos du Bourg

  • 2003 Huët Vouvray Moelleux Clos du Bourg - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (5/11/2011)
Slow ox’d four hours before serving. Yellow gold. Powerful nose showing granny smith apples, honey and some floral perfume. Beautiful and complex. Wonderful medium bodied mouthfeel. Tasting this wine at cellar temp is just an explosion of crushed green apple, including the skin which can add just a hint of bitter to keep the sweetness from cloying too much. Add some fresh honey to the mix and the slightest taste of lemon curd and one begins to describe the complexity and enjoyment here. Big sweet fruit countered by a firm acidic backbone and the obvious long, decadent finish.

The vintage provides a challenge here as this is a bit fatter than other bottlings of this wine. It is pleasure in a glass and very easy to get past however.
