TN: 2003 E. Guigal St. Joseph (France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph)

There is no question that this is a product of a ripe vintage, but it is one that, while atypical for the region and style, is well made, and quite enjoyable as a result. Ripe red and black fruits on the nose, some charred/smoke components - not terribly impressive, but not wholly unenjoyable either. The palate has a blast of sweetness immediately, and this red and black fruit/berry sweetness carries through to the finish - here’s the obvious hint of the ripeness of the hot vintage. Tannins are either not present at all or fully integrated. Finish is a bit short, but more than one might expect at this price range. A good value, and a great food wine that is ready to go now, and likely won’t go much further… (90 pts.)
