TN: 2003 Clarendon Hills Syrah Brookman (Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon)

Great fruit intensity and concentration and a nose that screams with gobs of fruit but is also meaty and bloody. The palate offers up smoky blueberry and there’s some subtle creaminess and vanilla (ok, maybe not so subtle but in great balance). There’s so much fruit here but it isn’t overtly sweet so I won’t touch another bottle for 4 or 5 more years to see where this goes. Incredible potential if you ask me. (95 pts.)

note: odd that CellarTracker lists this as Shiraz when the label is clearly Syrah (and clearly a philosophy of Roman’s).

Good to see Ken, as I posted a note the other day on 2004 Grenache from them.

All Clarendon Hills Syrahs are labeled as Syrah. Roman is a francophile and prefers the French word for the grape. I am cure Eric and CT just never bothered with it as it is Aussie, and quite frankly, calling it Syrah is confusing.

I haven’t had any of their Greanche in a while. I’ll pop one in the next week or two.
