TN: 2003 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan)

Golden metallic green in color….honey, melon, grilled pineapple, white flowers, lite sherry nose. Shows some ox…probably more so than it should…but it doesn’t detract for me……has nice melon, apple, pineapple fruit that’s creamy and smooth…not a lot, but plenty of citrus acid and crushed minerals to keep it alive. Med bodied with tasty flavors of white flowers, honeysuckle, orange zest honey butter, slight dried caramel spice finish. Would like more freshness, less oxness……but not bad at all. But have had way better Bord B’s for a lot less money. Need to try a better vintage…. (90 pts.)

Btw…why do they use a “V” for “U”…Chateav…Havt?? [shrug.gif]

V for U? 17th century typeface? BTW I’ve had mostly excellent luck with the '06 SHL.

So I’m a big fan of the more semillon heavy blends, but I will be the first to admit that I haven’t explored dry white Bordeaux as much as I would like. I’m having a hard time determining drinking windows. Notes on even the the better ones are all over the map. As much as it may be vintage specific, what are people’s thoughts on that?
