TN: 2003 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

  • 2003 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (8/23/2009)
From 375ml. Decanted one hour. Tight, tight, tight. Opaque, deep color. A reticent but nice nose of deep cassis and a hint of toast. The palate is clamped down with a wall of tannins, dusty, powerful, quite silky but ultimately unrelenting. I know there is a ton more hiding in here, but this baby killing was not necessarily worth it. Let 'em sleep… (90 pts.)

Thanks for the data point. This is one of only 2 wines I went heavy on in that vintage. OWC shall stay sealed shut for some time to come.

Yes, I too bought an OWC (plus a 6 pack) and a 3-pack of halves. In fact I bought 3-packs of halves of a number of 2003 Bordeaux, as I wanted to have the right to commit baby killings and follow these more closely than I have followed other vintages. Glad I have them. Makes trying them out just about guilt free.

It’s called ‘research’!

I drank one of these in June and thought it was closed down hard. Let em sleep.

when this was first released it was excellent, i guess it was time for it to shut down. cant wait to see it when it emerges.

im opening up the 02 tonight, last bottle i had of it was a touch funky with lots of tannin. hope it shows well tonight
