stewed fruit - prunes, currant, fig - not pleasant - seems burnt and overripe
i hope my other bottles are not this bad (84 pts.)

It is my understanding that there is pretty good bottle variation in this wine. I’m sure your bottle was that bad. I’m sure another bottle could be better. However, how much better is really the question. I don’t believe too much in this wine or this vintage. But then what do I know?

And I hope mine don’t taste like that. Pleaqse tell me you did not get yours from garagiste.

I recently opened a 2002 and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I was prepared for it to be hard and unforgiving, but it was beautifully balanced and had surprisingly good fruit.

Stewed prunes? Sounds like heat damage. Or maybe just characterisic of the vintage? [wink.gif]

I just opened one out of curiosity. My bottle showed a lot of graphite on the nose and licorice, herbs and earth on the palate. Still a healthy amount of tannins. Not an outstanding bottle, but pleasant for the price.

just had this at a tasting today and it didn’t show like that for me. Showed off the vintage, but also classic pauillac, so there’s probably some bottle variation in this wine as today’s wine didn’t show like it did for me about 18 months ago
