TN: 2003 Château Coutet (France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac)

At the Berserkerfest II dinner at Peking Duck House. Wonderful fruit components with light botrytis. There’s lemon, kumquat, apricot, pear and granny smith apple all mixed together with balanced sweetness that is not cloying. I like the botrytis and acid that grabs you in the throat, which this wine does not have, but it is still wonderful. There is a very nice clarity in the flavor profile. My wife, who is not a sweet wine drinker, decided to buy this at a tasting 2 years ago because it was not cloying. Two people at Berserkerfest said it was WOTN. I recall it having more acidity when we bought it, but now that acidity was more in the form of citrus fruit acidity rather than independent acid flavor. (94 pts.)
