2002 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Seven Springs Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (8/30/2009)
The 2002 Shea has been very good, but this wine is in a different league altogether. Comes across like a young Volnay 1er Cru. Tannic, rustic, yet elegant, fresh, and with very nice silky fruit. It is beginning to show secondary characteristics of leafy forest floor, but it’s still dominated by youthful fruit and tannins. If pressed for a guess, I’d say this is 3-5 years from peak, but it should be able to hold well past that point in time. Stunner of a wine.

Thanks for update Steffen, glad to hear it showed well for you recently, but agree 100% that the 02 SS is still years away from maturity.

I too am glad I still have a couple of these wines hanging around. I’ll keep them buried.

Indeed Phil! Having my 8 month old daughter crawling / walking seems to have resulted in a great reduction of all matters vino, electronic or otherwise.

This is a beauty for sure. sitting on mine for a few years yet.

Thanks for the note. Over the last 4 years this wine has shown it is on a serious upswing. With your update, I will continue to hold my remaining bottles.

As a side note, I know Mark V. puts this near the top as the best wine he ever made.
