2002 Reignac- France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur (9/22/2009)
Wasn’t expecting much from a 2002 cheapo…but this wine surprised me. Very dark inky blackberry color. Smoooth and plush mouthfeel, with a nice dry dusty tannic spice kick. Big dark berry fruit, creamy from the Merlot…slight earthy funk, spicy dusty tannins, cocoa powder, leather, little sauced meat. Has a great feel, and tasty flavors, all in a simple, yet surprisingly well made wine, from a Bordeaux Superieur, and 2002 Vintage to boot! I’m all over this wine at $13! (90 pts.)
Hi Buzz- where is your “just subtract 5” disclaimer? In all seriousness, thanks for the note and where did you find this for $13? Bordeaux seems to be the go-to region for QPR wines!
This continues to satisfy…like a blend of Calif. Cab and a right bank Bordeaux. Rich dark fruit, smooth and plush, nice mix of dry cocoa/graphite powder, dried tobacco, florals and old leather. And the sucky 2002 Vintage to boot??? WOW! The key though, is the Bevmo price @$13. If it was $26…I wouldn’t be so enthused.
WOW…almost 6 yrs later…my last bottle…and it’s still kickin!! Definitely barn yard brett in here…but the good kind imo. Fruit is still there…dark and smooth…really quite youthful….firm dusty tannin, cocoa powder, leather, plum reduction sauce, cassis de liqueur, dried herbs…little garbage can funk though. Tasty simple….not going to win any first growth blind tasting……but fun for it being a survivor! I wonder if there was anything else like Petite Sirah in this???
