TN: 2002 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot (USA, California, North Coast, Napa / Sonoma)

2002 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot - USA, California, North Coast, Napa / Sonoma (10/1/2009)
WIML90

Tasted October 1, 2009.

Opened and served immediately. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose was a bit herbal up front but with some air that blew away and revealed simple notes of red berries, red cherries and red currants that carried through to the palate. Moderate acidity, integrated tannins, medium body. Drink now. Allow for a little air time before serving. (90 pts.)

Commercial post?

Yes, indeed…

Martin, please don’t use our forum to shill your own commercial site. We’re ITB friendly here, but within the regulations they all fall within, namely, if you have a pitch to make, it goes in Commerce Corner.

Nice high prices. Do you get free soup with each bottle?

My sincere apologies if you guys have felt that way…just wanted to share my info with you all… wont be repeated again!

Ever notice that with the exception of the Reserves, Pride wines never seem to score very high? That’s a lot of money to pay for a 89-92 point wine.

If one concerns oneself with points, that is, instead of how much one might enjoy the wine. Overall, I have found the Pride Reserves to be more disappointing in relation to price than the my enjoymnet from the regular bottling cab and merlot, especially '94 to '97. I opened a bottle of 2001 Pride Cab last weekend that I paid $59 back in the day that was well worth the tariff to me and my wife. Paired with a 3" thick grilled porterhouse and the wine and company were very nice. Points, schmoints. I don’t know too many other under $60 cabs in 2001 that deliver the same quality (Neal and Karl Lawrence are the only ones that come to mind and, frankly, I don’t buy many cabs any more). Now, on the other hand, the first bottle opened which was corked was certainly not worth the money [swearing.gif]

Right, you payed $59 for the 01. Today for me to order from the winery cost me $90 a bottle when you include tax and shipping. I payed $45 for the 01 and thought it was worth it, but $90 is for current wines is not.
