2002 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve- USA, California, Napa Valley (12/8/2017)
This seems a little disjointed, goopy, syrupy, kind of a mess. A huge wine that maybe would have been better a few years ago. Or maybe my palate has changed. I have five more and I am sorry that I wasn’t drinking these a little all along the way since buying on release. Lesson learned too late. Bottle variation? I hope so. (88 pts.)
These do tend to be a bit syrupy and I am not sure the early consumption would have let them show better. It was the Foley style and hot for the time. I do know part is also my palate shift and these are dozens of threads from the Parker board that discussed just this: problem with holding these too long, especially once fruit dried. Pride went a different direction in about 2008. It would be worth you trying one of those soon if you have access. Cheers
Thanks Mike. I have a vertical of these going back to 1995 and ended buying in 2009. I do hope this particular style was unique to the 2002 vintage. I don’t care for it nowadays. I am sure my palate has changed somewhat.
