I received my case of 06 Lewelling Cabs today and in moving around bottles in my totally over crowded cellar to make room for 12 slots, I discovered a bottle of 2002 Pride Cab Franc. I forgot that I had this wine and was slightly concerned because I have uniformly consummed my Pride Cab Francs within 5-6 years of bottling due to a somewhat short life span for that varietal by Pride.
Upon opening the wine, my fears were confirmed. The fruit had dissipated and the middle and finish were not the glorious recollections I had of this wine. I decanted 1/2 of the bottle.
One hour into decant all that I could think of was the continual comments of my Brother from a different Mother the socks and sandals Steve the Dick eating Sax proclaiming week after week that Pride’s suck and die young.
I was so happy to discover after an hour that the wine had not lost its wonderful nose and palate of fresh blue fruit, cocoa, lavender and earth. I would recommend if anyone still has this wine to drink up and decant an hour.
