TN: 2002 Phelps Cab

Popped and poured. Ready to go from the start, but left to sit in the glass for about 45 minutes. No noticeable change at that point.

Lots of cocoa and a mix of blackberry and blueberry on the palate, with a hint of plum on the finish. Some oak but not obtrusive, with tannins fairly well but not completely integrated. After 2 hours, the fruit fades a little bit and the tannins become a little more dominant on the finish, but not in a bad way.

This wine has never disappointed since its youth and continues to show well. This bottle is very similar to the last bottle I had about 1 year ago. it is enjoable now and should continue to age well for a few more years based on this example.

Nice. Thanks!

I enjoy the Phelps Cabs, and even more as the price of the Insignia gets more and more out of reach. Nice note Bruce.

+1

I am definitely going to try to start drinking less Insignia and more Cab from Phelps. I took a '98 Insignia to Christmas dinner and was not very impressed (although my family was). Later that night I opened a '03 Cab and, to me, it was much more satisfying.
