TN: 2002 Osoyoos Larose

I haven’t opened one of these in about 10 months so I thought I would check in on it. I didn’t expect much because the last bottle wasn’t too pleasing. The last bottle was brutally tannic and astringent. This time, I popped and immediately decanted and served within 5 minutes. This bottle was still tannic but it was starting to show some really nice characteristics not present in the previous one. The fruit is subtle but the wine shows a lot of the non-fruit bordeaux flavors: cedar, tobacco, leather. It’s medium red and has a nice elegant mouthfeel. Not big, sappy, or over-extracted. This wine is showing a lot more potential than I gave it credit for 10 months ago. I put it back in the bottle with a stopper at room temp and finished the second half on day 2. The fruit was more prevalent with creme de cassis and a hint of cherry to mingle with the cedar on the palate.

I have 4 more and will be checking in periodically but I’ll probably wait 6 more months to see if that helps even more.

I remember a supplier brought this to me to try and it was nearly undrinkable.

Canadian wine? I didn’t know you could be talked in to Canadian wine? I would have sold you a bridge years ago neener

Hope all is well.

I’ve had a couple of different vintages of this. FWIW, it’s not all that bad but if I want wine from Canada, I’ll stick to Icewine.

However, I have had some decent Chardonnay from Vancouver Island.

Seriously Ian,
I bought this in 2005 and from the looks of my inventory I bought a little bit of EVERYTHING that year!
At least I have something to drink now that I don’t buy anymore.
