Opened last night to accompany a split pea soup with smoked ham and grilled cheese sandwich (arugula, talleggio, and apricot jam).
Popped and poured the color is very dark. The nose immediately jumps out with chocolate, plum, and white pepper. The palate has a fairly smooth texture showing more dark fruit (plum, blackberry liqueur), a hint of bacon fat, more white/black pepper and just a hint of tar and earth along with a little more chocolate. Possesses nice acidity to keep it a little fresh while there are still some chewy tannins on the finish. Very enjoyable now, I can see well stored bottles of this lasting another 5-7 years. Impressive 92/100 (92 pts.)
