TN: 2002 Matetic Pinot Noir EQ (Chile, Aconcagua, San Antonio Valley)

  • 2002 Matetic Pinot Noir EQ - Chile, Aconcagua, San Antonio Valley (7/21/2009)
I last had this wine in 2005…LOVED IT(as with all their wines), and just acquired a bunch more at a stupid price. My TN in '05 is so right on…that I’m just going to cut and paste it here, with a couple additions.

Try this wine at your next blind tasting! This is different and exotic as Pinot Noir gets!
Dark ruby red in color. Very exotic and floral nose of toasted oak, sweet coffee grind, raspberry/cherry puree, pipe tobacco smoke. Seems like a unique Syrah? But then you get the best of both Worlds when you taste it…SMOOTH as silk mouthfeel, that’s bursting with red crushed fruit, sweet spice, floralness, tobacco smoke, green tobacco leaves, pine sap, citrus acidity. Deep flavors like a Syrah, with the smooth balance of a Pinot…all in a uniquely exotic fashion. Really interestingly GREAT wine!!!
Today…even smoother, still as exotic and flavorful as ever…know one would EVER guess Pinot blind! But I’ll bet…they’d love it! Fun wine! (95 pts.)
