TN: 2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese

  • 2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (5/26/2016)
A great nose of green apple, a little honey, and slate/mineral in the background. Very fruit driven - a palate of green apple, pear, and honey with a nice sweetness balancing out the acidity. Seemed on the verge of being a carbonated beverage (in a good way). Slate and a smidge of banana during the 45+ second finish. While I’m sure this will improve, why wait? It’s friggin’ delicious! Very easy to gulp, almost too easy, because it’s not as complex as the '01. Just a simple pleasure. (93 pts.)

The 2002 has always been a friendly wine that belies the general strength of the '02 vintage. It’s a small but tasty Prum.

The 2002 Spatlese is the best Riesling I’ve ever had.
