2002 Hubert Lamy Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet- France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (12/8/2009)
I purchased these bottles at the urging of Pat from Garagiste. I intended to keep them for the long haul but curiosity and fear of premox got the better of me. I decided to take a bottle to the ESTG year end tasting. Popped and poured into a decanter, then followed for approximately 4 hours. It was immediately apparent to me that this was a special wine. Slight hints of oak quickly dissipated as the wine opened. The nose developed throughout the evening constantly changing, caramel, butterscotch, hints of lemon, white flowers… The palate was thick and mirrored the nose in complexity, the finish was forever. Showing best at the end of the evening, this was much too young to open, yet it was brilliant nonetheless. Phenomenal! (95 pts.)
The Lamy wines are great up and down the line, white and red, you name it.
They even have a very friendly sheepdog that I once played catch with through the iron gate while waiting for an appt. Only downside is that the cellar is a bit too short for me.
I actually have some of this producer’s wine in my cellar and cracked one last night.
2007 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly. Damn nice stuff I must say.
I’m a big fan of Lamy’s wines as well, and this one sounds astounding. About a year and a half ago I opened a magnum of '02 Murgers des Dents de Chien which was delightful. Reserved when opened, it kept gaining complexity and depth the whole time it was open. The only bottle I’ve had that hasn’t been 100% convincing was an '05 Chateniere, which was far too fat and round for my tastes. Really looking forward to trying the various '07s though. Great to hear the Remilly is drinking well.
Thanks for the note!.. I was contemplating opening one of my bottles a couple of days ago!.. after having had a premoxed '99 ;(
From your note, I guess I’ll wait another few years.
