TN: 2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre

  • 2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (11/8/2015)
Pale gold color. Lifted, perfumed nose of hyacinth, citrus, oyster shell, stone, and a hint of lychee. Precise layers of grapefruit, apple core, and white peach elements over a foundation of briny flint and limestone on the palate, integrated and utterly satisfying. Classic acidity and tensile structure leading to a rinsing finish of stone, tart white fruit, and grip. The epitome of Chablis for me and truly wonderful paired with calamari and scallop salad. Wonderful note. No Montee left but few others from 2002 still in the cellar

Thanks, Sanjay. I have some Butteaux left but alas no more Montee.

Cheers,
Doug

Great wine and a well-written note! Raveneau ages fabulously.

Thanks Doug - IIRC I have a couple of these still around. Love the '02 Chablis vintage.

Alan and Kent,

Thanks for your replies. Raveneau is so good. I’m drinking these as sparingly as I can. Hopefully my remaining 02 will make old bones.

Cheers,
Doug

Sounds terrific Doug.

Jeremy

What with fears of premox (don’t know about Raveneau in this regard), this good bottle made for major joy. The color gave the first clue we were going to be alright.

Cheers,
Doug

Yes Doug - I have had a couple of dodgy '00 and '01 MdTs.

I have z couple of bottles of Les Clos and a solitary bottle of Valmur. Thinking of putting up a mini vertical of Valmur in the next year or so- 02-04-05-09

Kent,

I am sorry to hear. Hopefully next bottles will be right as rain.

Sanjay,

Wow, the Clos will likely be spectacular. I’ve not had the Valmur. Post notes if possible!

Cheers,
Doug
