oh so different… thick, oily consistency like turkish coffee - poured like magma and the density was augmented by powerful and unmistakable notes of molasses, tar, dates, prunes, almonds and earth with a tincture of armagnac - layered with flavors leaving the drinker feeling like being transported to a desert oasis - there was definitely a refined, delicate port-like subtlety here - full throttle yet balanced from the beginning and should be decanted for many hours and enjoyed over two days - look forward to its evolution over the years…very unique wine… (94 pts.)
Wow, that’s an interesting note. Last time I had a bottle, it reminded me of a powerful vintage of Haut Brion with a strong mineral component. I remember that Rico T had the same impression independently. I will have to pop another bottle soon.
I agree, heck of a note. While I see the resemblance to Haut Brion for sure, I actually prefer Terra di Lavoro on the whole. But then again, I’m just not a big Bordeaux guy…
i can see some elements of haut brion here
yet this wine was so different - it felt like drinking primal, fertile land
one of the most interesting wines of the year for me
but not for everybody
