TN: 2002 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Eiswein Goldkapsel Auction

A friend brought this over one night to open after dinner. Wine of the Night for sure.

Luscious smells of apples and peach. Could smell this all day long. Viscous in the mouth with firm acidity and ripe fruit flavors. Very long finish. Lip smacking good. Stuck the remainder in the fridge, and the following day, it reminded me of a concentrated and syrupy but very clean apple juice.

Love these auction wines. Those always have incredibly unique qualities, and you always get the winemaker’s perspective on the vintage (and vineyard). Fun to drink, but so often too sweet. Fun to find out this had really good acidity.

It was my first auction wine. Quite a pleasant revelation. Unfortunately, my fiancee loved it too, and a half bottle costs $290. She has grown to have quite an expensive palate. headbang
