needed time to open. I’d recommend decanting. great acid spine with rich fruit. mint on the front and a long finish. excellent bottle.

Sounds like young Ramonet to me. Why did you pop it now, afraid of premox?

Premox is always in the back of my mind with white burgundy. While not quite ready for drinking, it was a great bottle. Wish I had more.

Premox waiting to happen on this one!

This was a truly gorgeous white Burgundy. Quite young of course but with a richness and layering of flavors that was a delight to drink. Given premox worries opening it now is a good decision (and one that I personally was very happy that Suzanne made). Only got better with air. One of my WsOTN of the night along with the 2000 Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux and the 1998 Fourrier Clos St. Jacques.

Jay, great seeing you again last week. Nice to see that you’re having a good run with Fourrier right now. Thanks for that bottle at Arte. Glad to see you posting here, as well!

Lucky you. I’m 1 of 4 on the 02 BM. I’m expecting to drink through the rest of my Ramonets (including 99 & 02 Montrachets) by the end of summer.

Hi Kriss - was great seeing you as well.

I’ve been lurking for a few weeks but I when I saw Suzanne’s posts from last night and that John is posting here (don’t know how they managed that) I decided to join in.

The '98 Fourrier CSJ is not nearly as forward as the '98 ‘Combe Aux Moines’ we had last week. I’d open another Combe Aux Moines tomorrow if I had one (I might but I don’t remember) but I won’t touch the remaining CSJs for another 4 or 5 years. Very good now but still a bit tannic and tightly wound.

Last night I described the CSJ as quintessentially Chambolle

the 98 Fourrier CSJ was the red of the night, followed closely by the 2000 Jayer Gilles Echezeaux.
The wine I couldn’t get a handle on was the 2000 F Magnien Clos Des Beze. borderline undrinkable. Highly sulferred and bretty.

That was my initial reaction but it improved a lot with air. Still not one of my favorites but I enjoyed it very much. As I recall when I was looking for another drink toward the end I asked people to pass me anything but the Tardy or the Chevillon .

The Fourrier was beautifully pure, the Jayer-Gilles was the more regal and majestic of the two. If I had to choose a favorite I’d also go with the Fourrier but in the end they were about as different from each other as each was from the Ramonet so I decided to give all three top billing .

And of course I feel obligated to put in a good word for the 2002 Weegmuller Scheurebe Auslese which was great in a completely different idiom.
