2002 Domaine du Coulet (Matthieu Barret) Cornas Terrasses du Serre - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (7/18/2009)
Decanted one hour.
Refined, feminine, and silky, this wine simply glides down the palate, with red fruit,pepper and black olives in perfect balance with the wines acid and tannins. By no means a blockbuster, but a very pleasant surprise in a very challenging vintage.Suspect it is a wine to drink up fairly soon but is a perfect sipping wine whilst watching the cyclists in Le Tour on a fairly boring stage
Bought a case of this wine recently in a sale and no doubt it was heavily discounted because of the vintage. However,I have had a few decent 2002 Cornas and this was worth a punt at the price of less than £11 a bottle. (87 pts.)
