2002 David Arthur Cabernet Sauvignon Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (11/2/2013)
It’s been almost a decade since we toured & tasted with David Long, owner of DA, and it still stands out as one of our most enjoyable wine experiences ever. The property is perched high above the valley with stunning views and David Long couldn’t be more entertaining. I’m happy to report that my last btl of his reg '02 Cab was teriffic and probably worth the $85 I paid direct from the winery. The then winemaker has been replaced a couple times since I believe so the style may have evolved? I really like the wines but dropped off the list because of a then hostage policy - you must buy 2 of these to get 1 of those. They may have changed that? Anyway, this was singing tonight with good palate verb and silky tanins. Really tasty dark chocolate, raspberries, mineral, creosote and tobacco flavors along with a very long finish. I double decanted it just to get rid of some sediment high in the neck but it was very open and fragrant. We could have used a 850ML tonightI’d drink these up over the next few years. (93 pts.)
