2002 Cottonwood Canyon Chardonnay Barrel Select Cottonwood Canyon Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (9/10/2009)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 4 Days –
– TN and score reflect Day 4 –
NOSE: green olive; plenty of oak; new plastic/petrol hint; rich papaya; good - not great.
BODY: rich amber-yellow color; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: very tart on Days 1 & 2, but it has calmed down and settled into a nice place here on Day 4 – it was actually so tart on Days 1 & 2 that I wondered if it even went through malo; oak; hint of spice; Bosch pear; the 13.9% alc. does come through a little bit; creamy; hint of petrol; medium finish (35-40 sec.); pretty solid, but not exciting. Ashley said she liked it a lot – a bit more than me, I suspect. I think this wine should be held for a bit longer – maybe another year or two.
B: 50, 5, 11, 15, 6 = 87
