2002 was the only year in decades where Parker didn’t taste in Bordeaux. Thank goodness my son was born that year. I loaded up on first growths all at $100 or below. The kid has a case of Lafite and 15 bottles of Latour, all for the price of about 4 bottles of FG in 2005 and beyond.
I thought that the '02s were, somewhat universally, in a closed stage at this point, no? I’ve got a few '02 Pichon Lalandes I might have to crack soon if not.
I’m not touching mine until Sid’s bar mitzvah in another 6 years, but I will probably burn through flabby 2002 Quilceda instead of classy 2002 first and second growth Bordeaux. I also have cases of 2002 Las Cases and Pichon Lalande which might be interesting by then.
I bought my two bottles retail. Last two bottles in the shop. $140 each. Compared to current day prices for 02s and current vintages, I think that price is still a good deal.
If anyone is serious about selling Lafite, please feel free to PM me. We pay cash up front and would even be willing to pick it up for free if you live in the SF Bay area. We have customers that can’t get enough of the stuff.
