TN: 2002 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

2002 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (7/28/2022)
Popped and poured at cellar temp. Tobacco, asphalt, a hint of green pepper and deep blackberry fruit on the nose. Nice mix of all of those flavors and crunchy acidity on the palate. Not as textured as some of the riper vintages of GPL, but very nice and very well balanced. Tannins are almost fully resolved, but not yet any tertiary notes. Ready to drink but many good years ahead of it.

Thanks - good to know it’s still going strong - I’ve always been a fan of the 2002.

Same here, and not just this property. A vintage that at least one prominent critic wrote off at seven years of age, I am still enjoying my 2002s. Always fresh and nicely balanced, lighter wines for sure, but undeniably left-bank Bordeaux with classically evolved mature flavour profiles. Good for drinking now.

This TN will certainly push me to include a few 2002s to be pulled out from the remote storage to enjoy some classic-styled Bordeaux when cooler weather sets in.
