TN: 2002 Arcadian Syrah Sleepy Hollow Vineyard

Not sure I have any superlatives left for this little wine. Numerous bottles over the past few years have been in my sweet spot. Last night, perhaps the best showing, which is what I said about the last bottle I opened.
For my palate, Joe and Sleepy Hollow fruit = [highfive.gif]

2002 Arcadian Syrah Sleepy Hollow Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (11/15/2009)
One of the best showings after several bottles of that I thought were best showings. That funky-haunting earthiness I get from Joe’s Sleepys, and some herbal notes on the nose. Expansive mouthfeel that is marked by pure red fruit, spice box, and a just a hint of roasted fruit sweetness. Nice acidity that still lingers and focuses the midpalate. Persistent finish with some residual sweet tannins and notes of peppery spice. Drinking so well. Widely available for under $25 on release. Bravo.

Found some here in the OC for only $24! Looks like I have a trip to Corona Del Mar to make…

By all means! Get on 'em.

Awesome note, Dennis. May be time to crack another bottle. What a terrific wine. I agree about Joe + Sleep Hollow.

I believe Joe stopped making the Sledepy Hollow Syrah this year, and he was nice enough to allow me to take a good deal of that section for my Axis Mundi second label.

This is an epic site for Syrah!

Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite vineyards. Just opened a 2001 Chard a few weeks ago and it was amazingly good!

Agreed.

Sleepy Hollow consistently shows well in big events like Frank’s 'Fall’tacular - they always stand out, both Chards and Pinots

Thanks, guys.
I love the nose that Joe gets from Sleepy on PInots and Syrahs. Tends toward dark and brooding, mysterious, haunting. Often, nicely funked, too.

I prefer Joe’s SH Syrah over that which he does with the more heralded Stolpman fruit. The ‘06 SH Syrah is a helluva deal, too.
