TN: 2001 Vincent Girardin Clos de la Roche

  • 2001 Vincent Girardin Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (12/30/2009)
After a good decant, this turned out to be one of the best Burgs I’ve had. Initially it was pretty tight but about 4 hours of air really helped provide an amazing transformation. The nose on this wine was absolutely incredible. Cinnamon, spice, floral notes explode out of the glass. I could sniff this for hours. Decent weight on the palate with nice spicy cherry fruits and a great finish. If you have this wine and want to drink it now, definitely decant it for a few hours for best results. (94 pts.)

Rob,

Girardin gets little respect for his reds, except for the Santenays - his “home” vineyards so to speak.

I too enjoy the wines. Not sure if they’re long termers, but so what. They are crowd pleasers.

Sometimes I get stuck on a particular producer (like Potel lately) and forget about how good some of the Girardin wines can be.
