2001 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile- France, Alsace, Ribeauvillé, Alsace AOC (3/21/2012)
TN from day 10. Honestly a bit awkward the first day or so. Bright golden with a beautiful perfumed, stony, green apple, citrus nose. Weightless and simultaneously very deep on the palate. Mouthwatering in nature, a perfectly chiseled and focused wine that in spite of its gem like clarity has a roundness and a creaminess to it. It has enough flesh to beautifully balance its structure. Huge minerality, marzipan, salt, and more rocks. This comes off as completely effortless. I could easily drink a bottle of this. A beautiful wine that is so much better day 10 than on the first day. A Great future. If you open one soon, don’t be afraid to open it a week early. Well done! 94 pts (94 pts.)
Todd, was this the 375eme anniversaire bottling? If not, do you know how they differ? I took a bottle of the 2001 375eme to La Paulee and had with one of the lunches. This was quite a wine. Initially, it was quite closed, but with time it really started to come out of its shell. Petrol, citrus and mineral notes. Great acidity. Dry but with great fruit that seemed to blossum with time…Long on the finish. I can imagine that if left open for several days, it would have really shown. I’ll keep my remaining 2 bottles for several years prior to drinking. Thanks for the note.
If this was the regular CFE, I love it. It no doubt is a vin de garde. I love the variation on the audooooze method. Was the 10 days purposely done or by accident? Were you checking in on the bottle during its decant? BTW-the '02 CFE is drinking really well right now.
I’ve opened two of these in the last 4 months. With a few hours air (at least) it is really nice. It definitely didn’t last long enough to be tasted over 10 days though I think it has a long life ahead.
Why should we believe you or the Trimbachs on this? Can anyone show me the vines? Isn’t this just some marketing ploy? A “brand”, if you will?
Just because this is a very special wine (I’ve had it 2 or 3 times & am a big fan) doesn’t mean that I want to accept the propaganda. I want the truth. Now that I think about it, we need some sort of government commission, whose members will be above reproach, to figure this all out.
Love both these CFE, the 375th is drinking great and has come along way in the last 12 Months, the last bottle I had seemed that way. Todd, sounds this normal CFE was very primary. Cheers Mike
Gregg,
It was by no means on purpose to keep it this long. I did purposely leave a couple glasses worth the night I opened it, as the last blle showed similarly awkward day one, but the 10 days were due to the new baby time warp, and me forgetting the wine in the fridge.
Mike and Roger, I haven’t broken into my 375s yet, but after trying the CFE a few years back on release, I did go long (at least for me ) on 2001 Trimbach rieslings lineup, and have a few blles in waiting.
I went long too Todd on the CFE. Found some at a good price and it was the house white for a while. Still have about 3 cases left. I’m going to go through these a bit slower and enjoy them over time. Nice wine.
Having had the regular CFE a few times within the last year and the 375th earlier this month, I would say that the 375th is much more open and generous now than the regular CFE. I have more of the 375th in my cellar, but I wish I also had a few more bottles of the regular CFE as well because I just love that wine and think it will be great years down the line.
A wonderful Trimbach vintage–I have sucked down cases of the stuff including a bottle last night. Probably own more 01 FE than any other wine. I like the 375 better than the 01 CSH.

I have 750s and mags of the 2001 CFE (regular), and I will be waiting until age 20 on the mags. The 750s will be getting opened starting in the next year or so (not counting the 2 I sacrificed on release).
I’ve opened several bottles of the 375th, and it is significantly more generous than the regular. It has gone into a bit of a shell, but is still so tasty. I’m not sure it is possible to own enough.
