I first had the pleasure of trying this wine shortly after release and it was delicious but a big brute of a wine. Since then it has gained layers of complexity with notes of leather, smoke, coffee, cherry. The wine was very well balanced and complex with a long long finish of cherry and almost polished sweet tannins. It seemed to gain in weight and complexity over the 6 hrs or so it was consumed but it never tasted heavy. A marvelous wine and how a shiraz should be made. A serious and cerebral wine. This and the Grange are my two favorite shiraz’s to date though there are a few others that were close.
Wonderful stuff. I tasted the '06 a few years ago at Torbreck and it’s still one of the best wines I’ve ever tasted.
Glad to hear. I have one lonely bottle of the '02 and have been afraid that maybe it has fallen apart like so many high scoring Aussies I used to love.
As much as a certain well-known critic gets crap for rave reviews of Aussie wines, this is one of those wines where I have to agree with the very positive review. I will also say, though, that the Torbreck Run Rig is NOT a big, massive, gooey, blueberry syrup kind of Shiraz. It has balance, and dare I say, even some elegance.

Seems to be taking forever for the 2006 to hit US shores. I buy two bottles of this per year religiously.
