TN: 2001 Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc Reserve To-Kalon Vineyard

  • 2001 Robert Mondavi Winery Fumé Blanc Reserve To-Kalon Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (7/23/2009)
Mondavi To Kalon Fume Blanc just does it for me like no other. Had the '06 at the Winery(went back a second day JUST for this wine) and it rocked! This is my last bottle of '01, and it continues to be super tasty. It’s all about this exotic tropical fruit and spice that you get in no other Calif SB. Coconut oil, banana creme, pineapple, lemon tart, grapefruit…creamy, yet cut with super mineral stone and lemon acidity. This 8 year old SB is fresh as ever, yet has some nice complexed age notes of hazelnut butter, baked apple, toasted marshmallow, marzipan. All still alive as ever…fresh and tasty. Love this wine…and the I BLOCK is even better??? (93 pts.)

Thanks for the note Buzz! Would love to try some Mondavi Fume at some point in my wine life…

You’re in luck, I have one of the 01 To-Kalon and two of the 00 (probably dead).

Well hell guys…sounds like another excuse to get together??? I’m free Sun.? [drinkers.gif]

Ed…by no means is the 2000 dead! These wines age VERY well. Had a 1996 I Block(have 1 left) a couple years ago…singin!

I’m free Sunday! [wink.gif]

Great note.
Fume is almost synonymous with Mondavi. Almost. Cab was his King, but Fume most definitely his Mistress and Queen.

Mondavi’s I Block Fume Blanc is one of the best white wines coming out of California. The French Laundry used to have it on their wine list, FYI.

I did not know that they made this Reserve To Kalon. I have to look out for this.
