TN: 2001 Reignac (France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur)

Mmm, this is a surprisingly serious wine for something I spent $15 on at Costco. Not loaded with fruit but nice mineral and cassis on the nose. Juicy, well structured with good purity on the palate. Quite pleasing with a ribeye. You will not find a much better value in Bordeaux. (89 pts.)

Eric’s ranking is quite a bit ‘softer’ than GJE’s collective opinion.

I still want to find a Berserker retailer with some…hint, hint…

I have a few of these still in my cellar. I feel pretty good because I would have had more but I have one to a couple getting married who asked for bottles to start a cellar as a shower gift. I also spun off a couple to some friends looking for a good Bordeaux value a couple years back. At least it looks like I know a little something now. newhere

It’s a terrific wine. The 2000 is even better. I knew what I was drinking of course, so I would trust the GJE more than me. (The video surface the other night when my Facebook status mentioned this wine–and Wilfred posted the very cool video.)

BTW, I just added a feature to optionally include a label image when posting a note. I like it!

Nice job on the picture inclusion Eric!

LOVE the label pic feature!!!

Thanks for the note!

BTW, credit for the idea on the label pic goes to Brandon M over on the WineLibrary TV forum. The thing I just love about working on CellarTracker is that so many people give me wonderful ideas of things I never think to do for myself. This is a great example! (And it took 15 minutes to code.)

Aarrgh. Passed on this when it was $13.99 a bottle, but I still have some 2000 left! [dance-clap.gif]

It’s at Half Wit Wines for $19.99 - 375ml.

Foley - better jump on this! neener

I had a bottle of this several years back and it was excellent. Then I had another a few months ago (perhaps 3) and it was really quite pedestrian. I’m now wondering if it perhaps was a bit corked, just to the extent where the fruit is muted and the cork taint less-than-apparent.

No shortage of fruit on the one the other night. Far beyond pedestrian. I think maybe you got a dud. Or maybe there is some variation at this price point?

I find Eric’s assessment of this wine to be quite accurate. Both the 2000 and 2001 are solid performers, although well short of ‘sensational’ (i.e. mid-80s wines). The 2002, on the other hand, is rather overdone and with the wood showing too prominently.

Eric, and all, would your opinion of this wine change if it was say, $27, because that is what I paid per bottle when I bought 6 back in 2004 or 05 at a store in New Jersey. The power of Costco…

Looking forward to popping open the 2000 sometime. Thanks for the TN, Eric!

Cheers,

At $27 the wine would be less of a bargain, but my tasting note would be the same. And relative to the world of wine, still a good deal in my book.
My price on the 2000 is $35. It happens to be a slightly better wine. It is also more expensive. I am glad that I have it.

FWIW, I believe I paid around $15 bucks for my bottles. I would probably pass at $27. For the 2002, I’d also pass at $15.
