TN: 2001 Reignac (France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur)

  • 2001 Reignac - France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur (07.05.2016)
Deep, dark red with no bricking. Nose of fruit and alc. Very full in the mouth, but the somewhat coarse tannins overpower the fruit.

I hadn’t tried one of these in the last ten years or so. Still impressive, but more of a bruiser than a refined wine.

What are the board’s thoughts on the quality and ageability of Reignac?

I bought six bottles of 2005, just before I stopped drinking the Parker Kool-Aid.

I’ve found Jeffrey Davies wines usually age better than one would expect.

Not sure who brings them in now, but back then they were in his lineup.

Also read that they do well in blind panels (haven’t inserted one myself in an event, not having bought them post 2000) but perhaps some of the annoyance at Reignac is the idea that a Bordeaux AC level wine is priced like a table stakes St Emilion.
