TN: 2001 Qupé Roussanne Alban Estate Vineyard

  • 2001 Qupé Roussanne Alban Estate Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Edna Valley (5/5/2014)
A wine that merits its reputation. A burnished golden hue with a somewhat reticent nose, but the wealth of flavors on the tongue are time-stopping. Just excellent and don’t–even at this late date–be afraid to give it a little air. I have some Alban’s approaching a decade, but I doubt they’ll match Bob’s light touch. (94 pts.)

Yup, Dan…you got it nailed there. Not sure I’d call Bob’s touch “light”. “Restrained” and “balanced” is probably more correct.
John’s approach to Roussanne can be a bit heavy-handed. And his “Hillside” Roussanne is one of the best/ageable Roussannes made
in Calif…maybe even the World.

Sadly I haven’t tried any of the Hillsides, advancing age and a slowly shrinking cellar have seriously curtailed any new purchases.
