TN: 2001 Pride Merlot

Well I’ve been trying to drink through my Prides and this is the best one I’ve had in a long time.

Pop and Pour.

Thank god there was little oak, this was a very nice wine. Drink em if you got em cause it won’t get any better. 91 pts

I knew you would chime in. And believe me, it’s the best 01 pride I’ve had in a long time, and 91 points doesn’t say much.

I agree, I have not been enamored of most of the Pride’s especially from 03 onward.

I still think it is a nice drink not 95 but not 91 either. I think Saxon eats too much damn crab. It ruined his palate.

It is a shame but I often wonder what someone like Thomas Brown could do with Pride fruit or Switchback Ridge fruit.

A LOT

I still buy a couple of the Cab Francs in good years only because I love that grape and there are so few Napa vineyards that grow great CF grapes. Otherwise I haven’t bought Pride since 02. I am taking Todd and tex up there on Sat to pick up my CF and taste the 07’s.

I know. Have you tried the Wolf Family Cab Franc…pretty tasty based upon the few bottles i have had.

Actually, I liked the Merlot better than the Cab in 01. I just had my last Cab and it was a bit much and seemed to have that cough syrup thing going on…just not my style.
