TN: 2001 Paul Hobbs Hyde Cabernet

While I have had a number of interesting and solid wines of late, this one was the first I felt like making a TN about. Fresh out of the bottle this wine was open. Lush grapey fruit, silken, fine and resolving tannins, and an overall juicy mouth presence. The finish was a bit on the shorter and bitter side, but over all a rather nice wine. You would think it was just released yesterday. Very nice indeed. 93/94+ points. Yum.

Nice note Curtis. I think most of the 01 Paul Hobbs are surprisingly nice right out of the bottle given their age and vintage. I love the Napa and even the BTK is drinking nice with a short decant.

Tyler and I had the 01 Napa in VT with Steve Saxon and the Boston gang. It was terrific.

Thanks for the check-in! I’ve had this twice and both times it’s been fantastic. Makes me wonder why we don’t see more Cabs like this from the Carneros district.

I am not too familiar with this district, but I suspect this wine does not speak to its “terroir”. [stirthepothal.gif]

Not that I care, of course. It wouldn’t matter to me if the grapes in this bottle came from North Dakota, so long as it tasted good.
