2001 Merryvale Profile - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/21/2009)
Dark purple color still youthful in appearance. The nose is lovely and had a concentrated fruit scent with cherries, blackberries, cedar, and hits of typical Napa style oak. The palate is smooth, medium weight, with fruit that is not overly extracted with a green edge to the tail end. The balance of this wine is actually quite enjoyable it was able to hold the 14.5% ABV plus not come off a s flabby due to some acid present on the back end that helps give it some structure. Overall this wine is not a fruit bomb it is structured much more like a Bordeaux minus the funk. IMO this wine will become even better in the next few years and for me it is a hold.
