Albrecht isn’t usually the producer you think of when you think about the peak of Alsace Riesling, but wow!

2001 Lucien Albrecht Riesling Clos Schild Monopole - France, Alsace, Alsace AOC (8/20/2009)
Brought to Wild Ginger for our anniversary. Intensity is the word here - unbelievable intensity. I was a touch worried as it looks like the bottle was a slight leaker, and the cork crumbled as I was pulling it out to check for corkiness prior to heading to dinner. But the nose - immediate smack of citrus and petrol - good things ahead! We were not disappointed - such clear lime, talc, melon, ginger. Bracing acidity and a finish that went on for easily over a minute. This wine will last forever, and I’d be surprised if the Clos Ste. Hune was much better. Just super.
