2001 Lingenfelder GrossKarlbacher Burgweg Scheurebe Kabinett Halbtrocken (11% ABV)
Medium-pale yellow with glints of both gold & green.
Nose > Big spicy pear-skin, tart-nectarine & peach, blood-orange, red & morello-cherry, quince, gala-apple, guava, starfruit, pineapple, & fresh lime-flesh.
A round & firmly stony, Elegantly earthy. Steely & creamy, but emphasis on steel.
Sappy, pungent & oily, but emphasis on sappy.
Small hint of Fuder. Honeysuckle-nectar, lavender & sage.
More & more lime-flesh, key-lime & tart-peach opens w/air along with steel & stone.
Big, beautiful & elegant.
Palate > Big mouthful of steely/stony tart-apricot, nectarine & peach. Seems just off-dry.
Big stony fruit with great acidity gives the flavor a very defined shape: round, yet long & angular with fruit-cream lining the steel.
Morello-cherry & cherry-stone, pomegranate, violet, rose-petal, licorice, asian-pear & earthy apricot-skin.
Tart yellow-peach, tart-nectarine & tart-apricot are the main palate fruit component vying with the big, elegant stoniness & a touch of bitter lime-flesh for palate dominance.
Sappy, pungent, masculine & powerful. Huge mouth perfume.
Hint of skin-contact? . . . or is that just the power of this wines big, bruisingly powerful Scheurebe combining with tart pit-fruit, stone & steel? . . . Touch of skin-contact, I think.
Very big-boned (as in frame-work - not fat) Really great backbone of ripe acidity.
Excellent intensity, depth & length.
Stone, steel & bitter lime-flesh echoing down the extended aftertaste.
Impressive, elegant, yet almost massive & dominant - sheer force of personality.
Mama, there goes that man! This is a big-boy wine!
