TN: 2001 Le Vieux Donjon

I’ve been drinking a lot of wine this week and this was one of the best. The wine is a translucent medium red color. I didn’t decant but rather popped and poured. There was a ton of sediment on the inside of the bottle. The nose offered a bunch of garrigue and subtle hints of fruit. On the palate the wine had a solid core of dark cherry fruit but it was hidden behind other more “earthy” flavors. The garrigue was there and a very apparent bloody/iron flavor that hit the front of the palate and faded to be followed by cherry fruit. The wine had medium weight and resolved tannin and really had a nice mouth feel. It had a nice clean finish of medium length and just enough acidity to keep you interested in taking another taste.

This was a great bottle of CDP and I’m glad I have more.
