TN: 2001 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

  • 2001 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (9/18/2009)
Nose is a bit closed even after an hour in the glass. Nice structure to the wine and I think its somewhere near its mid-point on its journey to its peak. Very well balanced with relatively ripe red fruit, white pepper mid-palate and a medium length finish. Donjon is one of my favorite producers in CDP and this wine proves why: balance, structure and nice fruit. With some more age, I anticipate seeing some very nice tertiary characteristics emerging and making this an even more attractive wine. (93 pts.)
