2001 Las Rocas de San Alejandro Garnacha Calatayud Viñas Viejas - Spain, Aragón, Calatayud (9/1/2009)
Yes…Brett is at the party…but I like Brett, and this wine carries the funk nicely! Still fresh and alive with almost a spitzy acidity…lush blackberry/plum/cherry fruit…leather, earth funk, kirsch liqueur from the Grenache, dried tobacco leaves. Has more of a laser beam to it, rather than a round plush feel. Little high toned and sharp at times…but the flavors are nice, and the acidity does well with meat fats. For the money, wow! And able to age makes it even better! (91 pts.)
