  On day one still some sulfur and spritz. this blew off by the end of the first day. A racy nose, very fresh with green apples, lime, mineral, just the tiniest hint of petrol, and a whole lot of Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Bright and incredibly clean and fresh on the palate. Really mouthwatering acid and slate-stoniness. More clean fruit, acid, and slate on the palate. This is terribly pure, focused, and clean. Delicacy and power all rolled into one. Leaves you wanting more. Better on day 4 than day one. Beautiful. At peak and in no risk of going down soon. 92 pts. (92 pts.)

Almost sounds like you’re describing an '09.

Showing incredibly, unbelievably young, obviously.

Sounds great, except for the sulfur.

I have several cases of Prum but only 1 bottle of this Kabinett. I look forward to opening it in a few more years.

Oh Prum Riesling, yum! The rule my fellow tasting team members and I developed was that if we thought we were trying a Prum wine from a particular vintage we should subtract between ten and fifteen years from the vintage due to their almost eternal youthful states - even when they are old they still seem young.

I got chatting with some chap in a wine merchant the other day about Prum wines. When he told me he had recently tried the WS Auslese GK 09 and thought it was a bit simple and only for medium term cellaring I thought it was time to speak to someone else. I could only afford one bottle of that wine but I am unperturbed about its long term potential.

The local Prum wholesaler closed up and blew out all their inventory to a local retailer. I have been reluctant to buy any more Auslese knowing their ageing requirements, but 2006 Graacher Himmelriech fo $19.99 was too hard to pass up. I also scored 2004 Wehlenher Sonnenhur and Graacher Himmelriech Spatlese for prices that will be very hard to duplicate going forward. This makes up for JJ Buckley not shipping to me in Nevada during their last sale.

The 2001 WS Kabinett was my first exposure to Prum, back in they day - must have been circa December 2002.

It was at a big [and very, very elegant] tasting of the stars of the 2001 vintage, and next to the Christoffels and the Selbach-Osters, the Prum seemed positively rancid - somewhere between the diesel stench of Newark International Airport [EWR] and that horrible rotten-egg aroma of Baltimore, MD, that I remember from my childhood.

Even among really serious wine geeks [like the folks who congregate at this board], I get the impression that precious few are aware of how many different faces a great wine can show, as it opens up, over the course of a week [or more].
