2001 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (9/12/2009)
Popped and poured for Traci’s parents in from Austin, TX. Her dad proclaimed it the best Riesling he’s ever had…
The wine initially showed a little sulfur on the nose but that quickly blew off to reveal some white fruit, a little spice and an impression of wet rocks. The palate initially was loaded with baked green apples, white peaches, slate and water falling over rocks…a waterfall if you will. I was initially surprised there wasn’t more sweetness but that was a pleasant surprise since I mostly like Kabinett level Riesling and like them young. Eventually the palate really tightened up its focus to reveal more gun metal, minerals…it was really laser focused. Very, very enjoyable. (92 pts.)
