2001 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino (8/21/2009)
Old school, masculine winemaking. Leather, dust, red fruits, earth, plenty of chewy tannin, lots of acidic cut, medium bodied. Fairly closed, even 5 hours later this is pretty unyielding and barely budged from opening, perhaps adding a bit of a lifted dusty / perfumy character, like talcum powder. Great depth of fruit under all the structure. The most closed 01 Brunello I’ve had to date, this needs at least another 4 or 5 years and will be a fantastic bottle way down the road, huge potential.
