13% abv. I hadn’t intended to hold onto this so long. Mahagony color, fading at the rim. Some secondary notes on the nose–autumn leaves along with cherries and sassafras. Shows some viscosity. Tart cherries on the palate but overall quite mellow and pleasurable. One CellarTracker note refers to black tea on the palate along with cranberry and sour cherry and I was getting some tea-like nuances. This wine had a really attractive aroma when young and that is muted now, but it was still drinking well at a more mature level. I really enjoyed it on the second and third evening so it held up well. I have one more bottle remaining plus possibly a couple bottles from the 2003 vintage. I will probably drink the other 2001 this summer or fall. 87 points.
Note: corrected vintage; first posted as 2011 which was a typo.
