TN: 2001 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vieille Vigne

  • 2001 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vieille Vigne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (4/21/2012)
A restrained nose at first that blooms with more savory- meaty but fine Gevrey earth and fine perfume. Delicate yet with power, with fine minerality, excellent focus, and a well balanced midpalate, nice deep cherry-pomegranate fruit, ample acid, and good depth. This has a gossamer texture for Gevrey. There is a cooler herbal aromatic back end to this that is quite long and very enjoyable. Drinking at early peak for me.

Overnight, the second half of the bottle gained depth and clarity, better perfume and balance. 93 (93 pts.)

Nice. A problematic wine for many, but I’ve had nothing but great experiences with this wine. I do not doubt, however, the accuracy of others who have reported the wine very advanced and muddled. Widely believed to be a 2001 cork problem. I think keeping '01 Fourrier wines longer is a gamble.
