TN: 2001 Dom. Santa Duc Gigondas Hautes Garrigues

Popped and poured tonight. Initially, a lot of raspberry and kirsch, with some nuttiness and leather sneaking in with aeration. Also a fair amount of black pepper in the taste (but not so much in the nose). A medium-weight Rhone, with still a fair amount of chewy tannins. Somewhere between a “yum plus” and a “wow.” Given the structure and tannins, I think this can cellar for at least another 3-4 years minimum.

One of my favorite giggies.

You may get “giggy with it” if you so choose.

Early on, I greatly prefer the “regular” cuvée from Santa Duc. I haven’t tried either of the '01s recently, but it sounds like I should!

Can’t wait to taste the 07 version of this wine. Haven’t had one since the 98, which was stellar.
